I remember all those years ago seeing feedtime, and there’d be nobody there. Well maybe 10 or 20 people tops. While the big guns of the alternative scene like Lubricated Goat or Beats Of Bourbon would fill out venues. I didn’t mind them, but there was something about feedtime. They weren’t cool. They had punk mullets. I think they were a bit older. I got the sense that they worked and had families. Had kind of really lived. That they weren’t just rich kids slumming it for a while. That they were looking forward to a life of meaninless work in a factory, paying bills and bringing up families, and that this was their only escape. Year later I fell in love with the Carter Family. There’s a lot of artists playing roots music, but I got the feedtime boxed set yesterday and I played this track, and I think feedtime are the only artists who capture the feel of Single Girl by the Carter Family. Especially on this track. It breaks my heart.
